Going aerial

I've recently gotten into the aerial flight and photography game with something called a Phantom 2 from DJI, who have an office in Austin, TX and are based out of Hong Kong. This particular multirotor has four motors and is operated by a set of joysticks over 2.4 GHz. It holds a GoPro Hero 3-series camera with a stabilized gimbal and I've set it up with a first-person-view (fpv) system that allows me to receive a live video feed at the ground.

It sure has been a blast, with a bunch of learning along the way. Here's a couple of stills:

And here's a few videos that I've put together of flights here in Pittsburgh and from a recent trip to the coast of Maine:

Work Training in France

I've been attending my introductory training for my new job with Schlumberger here in Melun, France. We've had long days and lots of work, but there's been time to have some fun, too. We got to go 'karting' at a place nearby, and yesterday we went into Paris and went up the Eiffel Tower and saw the end of the Tour de France. Here's a couple photos from the week so far:Eiffel TowerEiffel Tower La DefenseTour de France Reporters KartingKarting

In London.

I just arrived early this morning and took the Tube over to Hillsong:London, a big church that meets in a theater downtown. I met the young adult pastor, some of his staffmembers and attended the morning service. I could barely stay awake because of being so tired from the redeye flight... just barely hanging in here at 3:30 in the afternoon. After that we headed out for some lunch and I'm now at Starbucks snagging some wi-fi. I tried calling home with Skype, but it wasn't working for some reason... I'll have to try some other time...
